Stepping Stones for Little feet
Story House Stepping Stones for Little Feet curriculum is an integrated, interconnected inquiry curriculum prioritising the authentic journey of a child’s unique learning and development pathway.
Our Stepping Stones curriculum is designed for your child as their little feet step through their learning and development milestones. The curriculum is designed to nurture your child’s cognitive, emotional, social, language and physical development by engaging with our highly skilled educators. Our curriculum is based on contemporary brain research and early childhood evidence-based practice inspired by the Circle of Security model and infant and toddler focused Educaring® approach.
Children thrive in early learning settings where adults interact with them in a warm, sensitive, responsive manner, the environment is physically and emotionally safe and language-rich, and everyday experiences promote social interaction, play, creativity, exploration and problem-solving.
Our learning program encourages each child to explore their world in a safe, supportive environment, promoting independence and creativity as they learn through play. Your child’s little feet will embark on exciting adventures with peers, building lasting friendships while developing essential life skills. We do this by providing key spaces for cuddles, special places to share conversations when eating, time to be an inquisitive explorer and creating learning opportunities for each child to develop skills and gain knowledge through our personal care moments.

Relationships are at the heart of everything we do, our curriculum is based on the internationally renowned Circle of Security model, where you will partner with your child’s primary educator, supporting your child to feel safe and secure to grow, learn and thrive. This approach reduces stress for both a child, educator, and you as we partner with you from your child’s first day. Educators create nurturing interactions, purposefully supporting your child to build confidence, develop language and understand how to play and learn with others.
We embrace the Educaring® approach, which focuses on the individual child’s unique temperament, interests, and developmental stage. This approach encourages responsive caregiving, promoting an atmosphere filled with warmth, understanding, and respect as your children develops skills like feeding themselves, independently looking after their belongings to learning life skills like applying sunscreen. By attuning to your child’s cues and fostering a sense of belonging, we aim to inspire curiosity and support meaningful learning experiences through everyday care moments, such as through mealtime.
By nurturing children’s learning dispositions, educators support children to explore the rich potential that each child already brings to every learning situation, strengthening these dispositions is the core foundation in our infant and toddler curriculum through explorative play. Curiosity, wondering, questioning and discovering enables your child to learn through direct, hands-on experiences with people, objects, events and ideas. We believe children engage in learning with their whole being, hearts and minds, senses and emotions, are all involved in the process of discovery, wonder and exploration.
Being able to communicate is fundamental to children’s everyday lives, including their ability to express their ideas and feelings, to question, to learn, to connect and interact with others. Our curriculum fosters language development in infants and toddlers by providing rich, responsive interactions, educators engage in meaningful conversations that promote vocabulary growth and comprehension. Your child will engage in a language-rich environment where educators interact by listening actively and responding to your child’s vocalizations and expressions, validating their attempts to communicate. Additionally, your child’s language exploration will be strengthened through experiences such as storytelling, role-playing, reading, singing rhymes, and talking with educators. Through these approaches, educators create a nurturing atmosphere where infants and toddlers can thrive through language and literacy, laying the foundations for their future communication abilities.
