Oakvale is committed to partnering with its community and enjoys regular incursions and excursions. The centre is run by a passionate Service Manager who has lived and worked in rural Queensland for many years and strives to use her knowledge and experience of the community and industry every day.
We partner with you to provide a safe, quality, family-centred learning environment where every child is respected and nurtured. We continually develop our skills and explore new ways to enrich your child’s early learning experience.
Indoor and outdoor play based experiences are an integral part of our program. Educators plan a diverse range of experiences to create opportunities for your child in both structured and spontaneous play.
Our programs are inspired by the wisdom and teachings of early childhood theorists and the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), and aim to develop children’s emotional, social and cognitive intelligence.
The Kindergarten curriculum continues to emphasise play based learning, however offers additional intentional learning times where the focus is on literacy and numeracy, socialisation, self-regulation and independence.
What led you to a career in the childcare industry?
I have always had a love for children and supporting them to learn and become the best they can be. After trying my hand at teaching in schools early on, I discovered my true passion was early childhood and I’ve been working in this sector ever since.
What are your favourite memories within the workspace?
We had our Kindy Graduation at the end of last year and we had children that had been with us since the Nursery when we first opened 4 years ago. It was an honor to see how they had grown and become the amazing little humans they are now. Talking to parents about how we had changed their lives and how grateful they were was so heartwarming and special.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about ensuring children have equal opportunity to learn, grow, explore & develop in a safe, loving & fun environment. Its important to me that we support each other across not only our sector but across the community to ensure we can be the best we can be for our future generations to grow.
Who Inspires you and why?
There are many people that inspire me daily in many different ways, my best friend, my colleagues, my mentors, my family but some of my favorite quotes were from an incredible woman by the name of Maya Angelou who was an Author, Activist & Poet. She spoke of passion & joy and making the most out of any situation, but my favorite quote is “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
Make people feel good, make people feel valued, make people feel loved and make people feel happy. Even if it is with just a smile. That smile can make all the difference!
What type of leadership style do you have?
I am supportive of personal growth and challenge them to think, create & grow as educators. I encourage a culture of mutual respect and compassion whilst also keeping each other accountable and ensuring all requirements are met.
What makes your service such an amazing service?
We are family. We see each other sometimes more than we see our own families and its important that we know each other, that we support each other and most importantly we have fun!
What are your goals for the service over the next 12 months?
To continue to grow and be leaders within the community for high quality Early Education.
