At Mt Waverley Childcare and Early Learning, we provide a play based, child initiated program where the children’s interests are our focus to scaffold into further learning opportunities. We are a family orientated centre with a wonderful home like feel when you walk in that front door. All our educators are extremely welcoming to all families and the wider community.
Located in a great area with strong connections to the community. This is an opportunity for your child to develop within spaces in which they can feel safe and continue on their learning journey.
We believe that the value of play is of utmost importance to children as it is their way of learning about their world. While children play they are able to experiement with new ideas, test theories and their understanding of concepts, express their creative ability, release their emotions and share their feelings. While engaging in play children are developing across all domains and creating the building blocks for their future.
We partner with our families to provide a safe, quality, family-centred learning environment where every child is respected and nurtured. We continually develop our skills and explore new ways to enrich your child’s early learning.
Indoor and outdoor play are an integral part of our program. Educators plan a diverse range of experiences to create opportunities for your child in both structured and spontaneous play based experiences.
Our programs are inspired by the wisdom and teachings of early childhood theorists and the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), and aim to develop children’s emotional, social and cognitive intelligence.
The Kindergarten curriculum continues to emphasise play based learning, however offers additional intentional learning times where the focus is on literacy and numeracy, socialisation, self-regulation and independence.
What led you to a career in the childcare industry?
I have always had a love for children and wanted to make a difference in their lives in one way or another, when i left school i got a full time job in an early learning centre and i have never looked back. I hold my Advanced Diploma in Children’s Services and have had over 20 years’ experience in the field of early childhood care and education, the last 11 being with Koala. I have worked as an assistant, room leader, assistant manager and now as a Service Manager, I am also a mum of 2 gorgeous girls. I love spending time with my family and one of our favorite things to do together is weekends away camping.
What are your favourite memories within the workspace?
I always love it when we come together as a service at the end of the year and celebrate with the children and families. seeing the children grow and learn so much over the year is great to look back on. Another favourite would be the kinder graduation, wishing all of the children luck on their next adventure in life.
Who inspires you and why?
My children inspire me to be the best i can be each and every day.
What are you passionate about?
Ensure that all our children, educators and families enjoy their time with us, whilst growing, learning and having fun along the way. Providing a safe and loving environment for everyone envolved at our service.
What type of leadership style do you have?
I feel that i am very open and approachable to my team, I invite other members of the team to contribute to the decision-making process and together we come up with the outcome/decision. This not only increases job satisfaction by involving my team members in what’s going on, but it also helps to develop their skills. I try to be more of a mentor rather than dictating to my team, I have found you get a much better response and more respect this way.
