Here at Oak on Jellicoe childcare we dressed up for two good causes recently – Jeans for Genes Day and Pyjama Day. These days are a great way of connecting our children to the community, raising awareness of important issues in a fun way.
Jeans for Genes is a national event that supports and Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI), and their work in finding cures for genetic diseases in children. The second day we supported was National Pyjama Day, run by The Pyjama Foundation to raise much-needed awareness and funds for children in foster care.
By taking part in days like these, children broaden their understanding of others – perhaps seeing that some children have to spend time in hospital, or that some children are cared for by families are a little different to their own.
Developing a sense of understanding and empathy of others is a important learning for our children. It helps them relate and connect with others who are different, which can extend beyond Jeans for Genes and Pyjama Day, to broader issues such developing an understanding of different races, cultures, and religions. After all, we aspire to build a better more inclusive society for our children.
These are good learning moments. But it’s also hard to find a better excuse to wear double denim and pyjamas to school! Here’s some snaps of our happy kids enjoying these fun days.
