What led you to a career in the childcare industry?
I started some 15 years ago in Sydney as a young lady working as a trainee in a childcare service. From there I have worked my way up in the industry from room assistant. Room leader educational leader kindy teacher 2IC Assistant Director and Director. My love of children and the freedom and joy they bring to our souls is what drew me in initially.
What are your favourite memories within the workspace?
My favourite memories are always the funny things the children say. Some naughty some hillarious some just so cute. But recently on my very first day as service manager at Storyhouse Deception Bay a beautiful little boy came up to me hugged me and said welcome to my kindy; to me this was just lovely to see how comfortable and happy this child was at this service and how welcome and included he made me feel within a second.
Who Inspires you and why?
I’m inspired by my late grandparents Gordon Nay and Dorothy Nay. They had such a warmth about them that was so inviting even a stranger to dinner felt like family in their home. They never judged people but guided and praised and helped many local families charities and people worldwide find homes come closer together and feel accepted and welcome for who they are.
What are you passionate about?
Family family family. Its my everything its why I get up its why I love being around other families and its why any of us do what we do. For our families. I am so passionate about the time we have together the love I have for my family and being able to call myself a wife and a mother.
What type of leadership style do you have?
I believe in guidance. Honesty and mentoring. For myself I feel everyone and anyone can achieve greatness if they just try. Trying is all it takes and that’s all anyone can ask of a team member and of each other.
What makes your service such an amazing service?
So far it’s the team of Storyhouse from the everyday staff educators and teachers to the head office managers everyone has been very welcoming and made me feel very pleased to be working in such a lovely fresh calm home like centre in Deception Bay.
What are your goals for the service over the next 12 months?
I plan to hopefully boost our enrolments by welcoming in new families. Mentor the team and share my years of wisdom and guidance where I can. As well as transforming our service from not just an early learning centre but as a beautiful community space also for the local families to come visit and enjoy with our children and educators. Inviting families into new programs and planning such as our reading book story times, musical movement lessons, language lessons, event days, cooking times, excursion days, water play days, event days, markets, bush kindy and more.
